Prozac is a medicine introduced in the year 1986. It is one of the SSRIS (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) approved by FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for the treatment of Major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bulimia nersova and panic disorder in adults. Prozac also acts as a medicine for pediatric patients in the treatment of major depressive disorder (8 to 18 years old) and obsessive-compulsive disorder in 7 to 17 years old. Side effects of Prozac in pregnant Women :

Prozac if consumed by women during pregnancy affects the health of the baby. Babies are born with a serious condition called PPHN (persistent pulmonary hypertension). Babies born with Persistent pulmonary hypertension have abnormal flow of blood in the lungs and heart and so they do not get enough oxygen to their bodies. There are very less chance that babies born with persistent pulmonary hypertension will survive for a long time. Hence it is recommended to consult a doctor before taking Prozac during pregnancy.

Side effects in children :

Studies have proven that taking Prozac has increased the risk of suicide in children. Although this medicine is given to children in very less quantity there are chances of children getting the symptoms like anxiety, restlessness irritability, aggressiveness and insomnia.
